Moving Arts is a small intimate Pilates Studio in Pinelands. Our aim is to create a haven where one can experience the wonderful benefit of Pilates at various levels to suit one’s requirement and also find a moment in one’s day to just breathe and let go of the days responsibilities.
The Instructors at Moving Arts
Charmaine Lehmann (Kosmas) : My journey of movement began with dance at the age of four. Ballet was my love and focus and it helped to lay the foundation for all future movement forms. I went on to add jazz, contemporary and ball-room into my “movement enjoyment” portfolio. I taught for a ballet studio in Rondebosch and Houtbay for a few years. I then decided to continue on with my own dancing and danced professionally from the age of 21, later becoming part of the cast at Sun City, where I thoroughly enjoyed the exciting shows – 6, Movin’ and Fun & Games, later moving with the show to the Wild Coast.
On leaving the professional dance field I joined the fitness industry qualifying as a Personal Fitness Trainer, Aerobic Instructor and in 2002 as a Pilates Instructor and simultaneously worked for one of the leading Fitness Education companies for almost twelve years.
I continue to strive to increase my knowledge by attending a variety of Symposiums, courses and workshops.
My belief in “Moving” to stay healthy and vibrant in life is reflected in my varied interests throughout my life like: Swimming, Ballet, Karate, Scuba Diving, Hiking & Running. In reflection: “To move is to stay connected. Through movement we can experience our lives fully, vibrantly and with joy”. My wish for my studio is that it is a place for you to “be”, a haven for you to experience the level of fitness you are looking for or to purely add moments of stillness and tranquillity in your day/life. Pilates can be as challenging as you wish or as subtle. Come “move” with us.
Charmaine is the instructor/studio owner of Pilates Moving Arts.
Carmen Poultney: After injuring my ankle in 1999 I was introduced to Pilates. I instantly and absolutely fell in love with everything about it. I qualified as a BASI Pilates teacher with full repertoire and equipment in 2001 and have been teaching (short of two maternity breaks) ever since. I went on to qualify with Body Control international certification a few years later and my road since has been one of physiology and anatomy courses, yoga training, Feldenkrais courses, long walks in the forest and regular group meetings with other Pilates teachers and physiotherapists. I am passionate about teaching Pilates. I believe that our relationship with and attitude towards our bodies is intrinsically connected with our personal health and happiness.
Getanya Swales: Hay all, my name is Getanya Swales. I’m a Pilates instructor in Cape Town, South Africa. I danced all my childhood, and after dancing professionally I realised that this was not where I saw myself being for the next 10-15 yrs. So, I went to study in the exercise industry as my body could never sit behind a desk all-day. I started my own company in 2009, Gforce Personal Training. I originally did Personal training and chose to specialise in spinal cord injury, but then moved more into Pilates in 2011. As I moved more and more into Pilates I changed my company name, and I now work as Gforce Body and Mind. My uniqueness is that I go to my clients houses. I teach my clients about their bodies whilst exercising and correct postures and muscle imbalances. I also include mind, body spirit focus using aromatherapy and meditation, for those clients that are interested in including it in their sessions. The only studio I still teach for is Moving Arts. I love the clients and the feel of the studio.
